Below is a compilation of terminology widely used amongst the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, and Transgender community. There are a plethora of websites dedicated to the gay scene.



Gay.com, planetout.com, gayteens.about.com are great for help on coming out, social networking, information, message boards, chat rooms, dating and has tips on entertaining, style and living and stays on top of all the current headline news affecting the world and GLBT community.

Androgyny - The state of being neither particularly masculine nor feminine, or of being ambiguous. From the Greek meaning literally man-woman.
Androgynous dyke - A lesbian who is neither very masculine nor very feminine. The push for lesbians to look androgynous came during the 1970s as part of lesbian feminism, and was a backlash against the Butch/Femme social structure of the working class bar scene.
Bareback - The practice of having anal sex without using a barrier method of a condom. As in skin-to-skin sex or raw sex.
Bear - An extremely hairy and burly man.
Beefcake - This term for buff men orginated in the gay scene.
Bi or bisexual - someone who is attracted to both males and females. Some people prefer the terms omnisexual or pansexual instead, because "bi" means two, and there actually are more sexes than two.
Bitch - a gay man or drag queen who is out of favor with the speaker, rude, or especially catty or campy
Bone smuggler - a drag queen
Bottom - In general (especially among gay men), the one who prefers to be the recipient or to "catch." The passive or submissive partner in anal intercourse. There are many kinds of bottoms.
Boy - 1) A butch or male submissive or bottom, frequently one who role-plays as young 2) A boyish butch lesbian
Breeders - A derogatory term for heterosexuals, especially for those who glorify childbearing.
Bug chaser - a person (usually a gay man) who wants to catch HIV.
Butch - Masculine male or female.
Catcher and pitcher - Speaks for itself.
