The life of a soccer player is a rough one, going to practice everyday, holding down a job and spending upwards of eight hours going to and from a soccer game.
That's something Hawks forward Danny Daughton has gotten used to. What he has had to learn at Las Positas College, is how to deal with losses.
Daughton is a freshman at LPC after graduating from soccer powerhouse Monte Vista High School. As a Mustang, Daughton went 19-0-7 his senior year winning both a league title and a section title.
The rough season the Hawks are going through has been the biggest adjustment Daughton has ever made on the soccer field
"It's definitely been a challenge," Daughton said. "Came from championships, winning almost every game and here we haven't had that kind of success."
Daughton's plans for after high school didn't include LPC soccer or even attending the school itself. His plan was to take off to Butte Community College to be with his girlfriend and a couple of buddies.
Unfortunately for Daughton, his buddies backed out on rooming with him, leaving him at home without his girlfriend.
"I was going to Butte, and my roommates bailed out on me last minute," Daughton said. "We (Daughton and girlfriend) have been together for like 2 years, so it was like really hard. I knew the only thing that would keep me together would be soccer. So I joined the team and it kind of made me forget."
With a last minute change in plans, Daughton arrived at LPC on Aug. 23, the first day of school, to try and register for classes. With it being tough to register for classes online, it was even tougher for Daughton to get the classes he wanted on the first day of school.
What saved him from going over the edge was hearing about Hawks soccer.
"Came the first day of class and it was really hectic," said Daughton. "Heard the team was playing and I wanted to play really bad."
The first day of classes at LPC was Daughton's first practice of the season compared to the majority of the team that had been practicing all summer. The lack of practice left Daughton at a disadvantage compared to the team.
