The LPC Hawks scored a huge victory at the Mills Invitational at Mills College in Oakland when they took first place at a meet that was a mix between community colleges and four year universities. Four of the top 10 runners and three of the top five were Hawks. The team average for this race was 29.13 and the team ran under a six-minute mile at this 8k (five miles).
This win came at a crucial time as the Hawks' next race is conference. "It lifted our spirit," said Coach Steve Navarro. "The whole team is just so excited about winning and the look on their face was worth a million dollars."
This win is important because it sets up Las Positas before conference. At conference, the top four teams get to compete at norcal and the best 10 teams at Norcal go to state in Fresno. The Hawks are among the top four teams in Norcal and are expected to go to state, according to Coach Navarro.
The Mills Invitational was more than just a big win, it was a chance for runners such as Joey Nunes and Juan Gomez---among others---to endear themselves to four year schools. They beat the pants off such as Cal State East Bay and Holy Names. Navarro expects Las Positas to compete against more four year schools next year
Parris Hodges, the best female runner on the women's team, medaled in the 5k with a time of 21:05. She is expected to finish in the top three at confrence and top six in Norcal and is expected to go all the way to state. Her sister Page ran a 25:18. Coach Navarro hopes to have a full women's team by conference
